Nadya Suleman, better known as "Octomom," is making headlines again. But not for running out of money to feed her children or for starting a new reality TV show this time. Currently, Suleman's physician Dr. Michael Kamrava is being accused of medical malpractice. The California Medical Board has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against Suleman's fertility doctor, Dr. Kamrava for implanting a dangerous number of embryos in the 48-year-old woman.
According to recent news reports, the board complained that it was a "gross negligence and such a high number of embryos transferred to Suleman should not have been transferred to any woman, regardless of age." Additionally, the board expressed that Suleman and her family should have received appropriate counseling from an expert to help them deal with her situation. These reports were published in the Washington Times.
Dr. Kamrava implanted seven embryos, four of which turned into fetuses and one that died in the womb. Suleman's life drastically changed into a tabloid spectacle when she had her last two children while not having a job or partner. For these facts, many individuals criticized her. Suleman already had six children when Dr. Kamrava implanted the additional seven embryos into Suleman.
"The California Medical Board claims that naturally or not, pregnancies become riskier with additional children, and as the woman already had six children, deliberately implanting multiple embryos leads to "catastrophic results."
Dr. Kamrava is a reproductive endocrinologist in Beverly Hills, CA. He graduated from medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and has been practicing medicine since 1976.
